Grand Rapids resident, Diana Santiago, 57, crashed her bicycle three years ago. She suspected something might be wrong. Soon after she began to lose her vision and coordination. "It would be like my eyes would go cross-eyed, then they would fix," Santiago said. "Then it got to the point where they stayed that way permanently." Her 12-year-old bearded dragon, Sassy, gave her comfort when she wasn't able to see. "I would be crawling around on all fours feeling around my home until I found her," Santiago said. "I wanted her to know I wasn't neglecting her just because mama couldn't see her."

The list of issues Price faces with her clients is long: mental health, homelessness, day care, breastfeeding, dental care, job hunting, education, transportation, food assistance, Medicaid, doctor visits, birth control. Always ready with a hug, Price is an upbeat presence wherever she goes. "You see a lot," Price said. "Every case is different. And that's the beauty of it, too —you see all the variety."

2012 Ms. Wheelchair California Mary Zendajas, 45, knew when her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer last February that she could possibly be next. When Ms. Wheelchair America organization sent out an email that Spectrum Health would offer mammogram screenings for contestants during the week of Ms. Wheelchair America pageant in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she knew she needed to get screened. "My sister was sadly, or maybe fortunately, diagnosed early," Zendajas said. "But it has taken a toll on our family and has switched my mind to be more proactive and share the importance of having a mammogram for all women."
